Wonderful 1990's Summers

I graduated from the University of South Carolina in the late 80's. I had grown up in the south and the furthest north I had been was Washington, DC. In the summer of 1988 I made my first trek to New England. I fell in love with the place!! Within 1 year I had packed up and moved to a new job at Bridgewater State College. I was off on an adventure of a lifetime.

The best part of life in Bridgewater was the summer!!! Cape Cod and the beaches were only 40 minutes away. Summers at BSC were laid back and carefree. I remember making day trips to Craigville, Sea St Beach in Hyannis or Sandy Neck 2-3 times a week and EVERY weekend. The memory of navigating the old rotary at Rte 6 and 3 and crossing the Sagamore Bridge on the Mid Cape Highway still make me smile. Saturday afternoons with Jim Plunkett, trips to 4 Seas Ice Cream in Centerville, the Mill Hill Club (I think that was the name) were such fun. And, having a Cape Cod tan as my dad called it was the best. I can't think of one particular summer or memory. All my memories of going "down the Cape" take me back to a time in my life I wouldn't trade for anything.

I have long ago moved back to South Carolina. However, for one week each summer I relive my youth with an annual pilgrimage to the Cape. It is my hope that Heaven resembles Cape Cod!!!
