Best of Cape Cod

Heading to Cape Cod from Long Island -

We will be heading to Cape Cod from Long Island this summer. Can anyone tell me the best way to get to the Cape from Long Island? How bad is the drive? Should we try and ferry it most of the way? Have never been to either location so unsure the best way to make the destinations work. Any help would be greatly appreicated. Thanks!

The only time I went to Long Island we took the ferry from New London CT, worked out fine and not much traffic. I would do it again , and it was fun.
