Best of Cape Cod

Do you know where to find a Cape Cod Beach with great tidal pools?

When I was a child I used to go to a beach on the cape at low tide and spend hours looking under rocks and in small pools that were left behind for all kinds of sealife (sea urchins, crabs, lobsters, eels) and it was always one of my favorite things to do.

Now that I have a child of my own (age 7)I would love to share this experience with him. We go to the cape every year and I have yet to find this beach or another beach like it.

We stay in Eastham near Kingsbury beach (bay side) which has its share of tidal pools at low tide, but they are all sandy and the only thing we find are crabs, crabs, crabs, crabs, and an occasional sea turtle.

I think the place I used to go to is near Sandwich, but not sure. We will be down the cape the first two weeks in august and will have plenty of time to explore.

Cockle Cove, near Chatham. Take Cockle Cove Road south from route 28 to the end. At low tide, the water at the beach is shallow, and there is a large, shallow tidal pool behind the beach.

There is an abundance of shells to be collected and any numbe of sea creatures for the kids to pursue. It's perfect for us adults that never quite grew up too. Have fun!

I think that the beach you are talking about is on Town Neck Road in Sandwich, right next to Hemisphere Restaurant. We go there all the time! The rocky shoreline is a great place to find all kinds of sea life. Our family has started a tradition...Every time that we leave the Cape, we stop at this beach and collect some of the larger, smooth beach stones. We then take them home and paint sayings on them and place them around our pool. Now when you walk around our pool patio, you will notice painted beach stones among the thousands of others with sayings such as "Cape Cod 08", and "Soak Up The Sun 07" and various other sayings...Pretty cool!
