5 Things to do in the Winter on Cape Cod
by Megan Gates
Cape Cod is a great place to go for a weekend away from it all, even in the winter months. There are many fun activities that adults and families can partake in while relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
Visit the Cape Museum of Fine Arts to see collections from local artists from the Cape Cod area, as well as those who have connections with the quaint town. If you go in the afternoon, you might have time for a brisk walk on the beach before heading into Dennis for dinner. If you are with the whole family, choose a restaurant that is family-friendly, such as Chapin's or Marshside.
Another fun thing to do while on Cape is to take a drive down Route 6A. This country road has amazing views of salt marshes and many historical buildings that you can stop and take a look at. This can be a romantic couples activity if you pair it with dinner at the Red Pheasant in Dennis, which is one of Cape's premier dining establishments. This is not an activity for children, as the atmosphere is a candlelight and wine type of experience.
Visit the Brewster General Store to find items that remind you of the past. Brewsters carries tourist trinkets, candy, food, and a variety of other novelties that take you down nostalgia lane. After visiting Brewsters you can head to Sandwich to go to the Dunbar Tea House. Here you can warm up with a selection of afternoon teas, sandwiches, and pastries.
If you want to explore some of Cape Cod's natural beauty, consider bundling up and taking a walk through one of the nature conservatories in the area. Talk to your hotel concierge or innkeeper to find one that is close to you. After a cold hike, you can warm up with the food at Brazilian Grill. This restaurant is not for vegetarians, as it offers a large selection of traditionally cooked Brazilian meats. It is family-friendly if you want to bring kids, or you can make it a couple-only experience.
Think about taking on some outdoor activities if the weather is right for it. The Cape doesn’t get too much snowfall; therefore many people enjoy golfing year round, just make sure to bundle up. If you are looking for more of a winter activity, try ice-skating and grab a cup of hot cocoa! This will help heat you up, even though the weather is frosty. Consider eating dinner at the Cape Cod Sea Grille for fresh seafood, or Buca's for delicious Italian cuisine.
